Leif resides in Oslo, Norway and competes in road races, mountain bike races, running races and Nordic ski races. There is a famous (infamous?) race known throughout the endurance world called the Birkebeiner triple in which Leif placed 6th overall in his
Class in 2009. It is comprised of 3 separate races at different times of the year: Birkbeinerritte (90km mountain bike race), Birkbeinerlopet (23 km running race) and Birkebeirerremet (54 km ski race).
Contemplate the fact that the ski race alone boasted 14,779 entries and 13,190 finishers, meaning there are close to as many athletes that dropped out of this race than line up for the biggest mass starts in the US. Then imagine a mountain bike race that requires you to carry a backpack filled with supplies that must weigh at least 7.5 pounds just in case “something happens” and you’ll better understand what it takes to just finish this leg of the competition!
Leif embarked on his 2010 bid with a 28th place (out of 1,700) in his class at the Birkebeirerremet on March 20th. I am proud to boast Leif as an athlete that I coach in all disciplines.
