Karyn Abraham, the working mother of a future mountain bike pro, and married to a dude who races across Alaska, still finds the time to ride her bike…and ride it really fast.
Karyn reached out to Training Bible Cycling in the summer of last year to prep for the Chicago CX Cup. She had an impressive season taking fourth overall in the series. After some time off the bike Karyn was ready to start training for some epic dirt and gravel races in the spring, including Barry Roubaix . But with a jam-packed work/life schedule the spring focus shifted to races under 100 miles, much to the chagrin of those planning to race the WEMS Mountain Bike series.
Coming off a “rest” week chasing her future Jill Kintner around Disney World, Karyn raced the #2 race of the Wisconsin Endurance Mountain Bike Series, Gears Greenbush Grinder. She came across the line in second place. A week later she tried her hand at a criterium, and then was back in the dirt on Saturday at the Alpine Valley WEMS race. She again comes across the finish line in second place.
We really look forward to TBC athlete race recaps, and I thought I would share part of Karyn’s entertaining Alpine Valley race summary. Karyn starts fast and so found herself mixed in with the men who had staged at the front of her wave. After settling in Karyn got passed by 2 women, and from there… ” I never let the #2 gal out of my sight and we rode together for the entire second lap. I was stronger on the climbs, then she would drop me on the descents. I could tell she was starting to lose steam though and I pulled ahead a mile or so into the last lap. For a while I thought I had lost her, but then I saw her gorgeous neon pink custom bike coming around the corner. Darn! I gave it all I could to secure my spot and rolled across the line in 2nd place.”
We sure are proud Karyn is a Training Bible Cycling athlete.
