Sunday was another good day for Training Bible Cycling. One of our mountain bike racers took the top step in the first Cat 2 WORS race of 2016 (Iola Bump & Jump), and one of our juniors snagged second place in a very difficult Fox River Grove Cat 3 race which bumped him up to 3rd place for the weekend’s omnium.
In The Dirt
Jake Peterson joined the TBC team in 2015 at the end of his mountain bike season and just in time for the Chicago Cross Cup. By the end of his first full cyclocross season Jake had moved up to category 3, and ended his season on a high note with a 5th place in the Illinois State Championship.
After some down time, a smooth transition and a disciplined pre-season, Jake was psyched to start the 2016 WORS Series. His fitness, bike handling and motivation are what put him on the top step in the Cat 2 race by minutes and first overall in his age group. To quote his girlfriend, “Jake was like a freight train coming through the start/finish.” Chicks dig bike racers, especially fast ones, just as much as bike racers love their bikes.
On The Pavement
Paul Hartner started racing bikes less than a year ago. He joined TBC after a successful CX season racing as a junior, and with a new focus on the 2016 road season. Paul, a 17 year old kid (though probably more mature than you), takes full advantage of the TBC program and follows his workouts to the “T”. He quickly earned his way to Cat 3 on the road.
Paul’s first two races as a category 3 were over the weekend. He came in 3rd in the Elgin Crit Junior race working for his buddy, and 12th in the Cat 3 race. On Sunday Paul saved his legs for the steep climb in the Cat 3 race at Fox River Grove and came in 2nd. As a result Paul pulled off a 3rd place in the Fox River Grove Omnium competition. Check out Paul’s awesome video race diary from the weekend:
